ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team wound up on the wrong end of an evenly played Atlantic 10 match Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex, falling 1-0 to Davidson following a late Wildcats score.

The stats from Saturday's contest reflected the back-and-forth nature of the battle between the Bonnies and Wildcats: St. Bonaventure finished with a 12-10 edge in total shots while each team earned five corner kicks.

Unfortunately for the Bonnies (4-6-2, 0-2 A-10), the lone score of the afternoon came off the foot of Davidson's Jaylen Thompson at the 68:48 mark following a low cross that was tapped in for the deciding tally.

St. Bonaventure created chances to get on the board – it appeared as though the Bonnies would strike first in the 23rd minute when Kosi Nwafornso played a ball into Paul Afful who placed a shot right on. Following a scrum in front, the Bonnies put a shot attempt right onto the goal line, but not over as goalkeeper Sam Bissett was able to clean up at the last possible moment.

Down a score, the Bonnies also had opportunities to tie.

With just over 10 minutes to play, a Davidson handball led to a free kick for the hosts. Afful rifled a shot through the Wildcats' wall, forcing a diving save from Bissett to preserve the score.

A minute later, Afful nearly struck again with a one touch strike just wide.

As time ticked away in the 83rd minute, Afful and Nwafornso worked together again as a great cross from the Bonnies senior found Nwafornso on the near side and he rocketed an effort just over the crossbar.

Luke Iacobellis made two saves for the Bonnies while St. Bonaventure put six shots on goal against Davidson keeper Sam Bissett who held strong for a clean sheet. With Saturday's outcome, Davidson improves to 6-4-1 and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10.

The Bonnies are next in action Wednesday night at home, hosting Fordham with game time slated for 7 p.m.
