ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Two unassisted goals helped push visiting Hartwick past the St. Bonaventure men's soccer team, 3-1, in a non-league matchup on Saturday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The Hawks struck early, as senior Marc Berry, off an assist by junior Harry Morton, found the back of the net in the 17th minute for his second goal of the year.
The Bonnies nearly struck for an early equalizer in the 28th minute off a header by Nicola Bonso from four feet out, but an offsides call nullified the goal as SBU headed into the locker room down 1-0.
However, coming out of halftime, the Bonnies were able to tie it up thanks to a goal from the right side of the box junior Kosi Nwafornso, who led the team with five shots on the night, off an assist from senior Kieran Toland.
But, Hartwick would not go away as freshman Marco Torino, who, along with senior Jamie O'Grady led the Hawks with three shots, broke away from his defender to sink the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute.
Hartwick put the game away late with Kane O'Neill scoring on a one-on-one breakway in the 76th minute to clinch the victory and even up their season record at 3-3.
Bona held an advantage in corners (6-5) while Hartwick owned a 12-11 edge in total shots.
All together, the Bonnies, who fall to 3-3-1, put together 11 shots, six in the second half.
Next up for the Bonnies is a road meeting with Little Three rival Niagara on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
