ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Junior Kieran Toland of the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team has been named to The Buffalo News' All-Big 4 Best XI wrap-up of the 2016 season.
Toland earned a spot on TBN's midfield after leading the Bonnies in scoring with four goals on 38 shots. The Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland native was a mainstay on the pitch for the Brown and White all season, helping run the Bona offense and contributing on defense playing in the middle of the field as he started all 17 games in which he appeared.
The junior seemed to find the back of the net when St. Bonaventure needed it the most. His first goal of the season came on a penalty kick that tied the game in the final seconds of the home opener against Bucknell on Aug. 28. He also scored the lone Bona goal to help his squad keep pace with Buffalo (Sept. 21) and he found the back of the net twice to power the Bonnies to a 3-2 win at Davidson on Oct. 8.
Junior Paul Afful and sophomore Isaiah Wilson were named to TBN's Best XI honorable mention list. Paul Afful was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team at the conclusion of the season, and Isaiah Wilson's second campaign at St. Bonaventure was highlighted by a dramatic game-winning goal in overtime against Dayton (10/15) on a ball that went bar-down and over the line.
