ST. BONAVENTURE , N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team came up short, 1-0, at Canisius on Friday night.

In his first career start, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Olday made six saves on the night for the Bonnies.

The Griffs' lone goal came early, as Thomas Teupen found the back of the net with a header off a corner kick six minutes into the game.

At the 27:02 mark, Jon-Michael Perkins danced around defenders and found Paul Afful near the net, but his shot attempt went wide.

The Bonnies came out of the half with momentum, and pressed Canisius.

Late in the second half, St. Bona earned two more chances to equalize. Perkins rifled a shot on net at the 76:37 mark, and Kieran Toland put one on net at the 81:17 mark that forced a save. Afful had a shot lined up and fired just high for the Bonnies' final strike of the game at 85:35.

SBU had six shots on the night. Afful accounted for two, while Toland, Perkins, Isaiah Wilson and Anthony Gaglianese had one apiece.

The Bonnies return home to face Big 4 rival Niagara on Sunday at the Marra Athletics Complex. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
