Featured in the Bonnies' midfield is 2015 leading goal scorer, sophomore Kosi Nwafornso. He scored four goals in his freshman campaign and also fired 25 shots with 14 going on net, which were both also team bests.
Classmate Remi Dujardin also returns, having played in all 19 games with 17 starts with an assist in 2015. Isaiah Wilson rounds out the returning sophomores. He was also a mainstay on the pitch for the Bonnies, starting 18 games last season.
"We have been very pleased with the players we brought in," said head coach Kwame Oduro on the return of his first recruiting class at the helm. "In their first season, they developed as young men through a lot of adversities. They are continuously doing well in the classroom. And most importantly for us, they have been improving each and everyday on the field. Since last year and last spring, they have been nothing but great student-athletes. We couldn't have asked for a better recruiting class."
Five players will make their debuts this season on the midfield: Junior Paul Afful, sophomore Kwame Opoku, redshirt-freshman Nikko Richards and true freshmen Parker Shetler and Carlos Ruano Morales.
Afful enters his first season with the Bonnies after playing for the University of Education Winneba where he played two seasons. The Takoradi, Ghana native won the most valuable player of the Inter Hall Competition in 2014-15 and also helped lead University of Education Winneba to back-to-back silver medals in the Ghana University Games.
Opoku is a native of Toronto, Ontario, who helped S.C. Toronto capture the 2009 Ontario Cup and led Westview C.S.S. to a 9-1 record his senior year.
As a redshirt, Richards spent 2015 practicing with the Bonnies. The Victor, N.Y. native was both a three-time Section V Class AA All-Sectional Team selection and All-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention selection playing for McQuaid Jesuit High School.
Shelter totaled 26 goals and 22 assists while earning an All-State selection playing for Lancaster High School. He was also a member of the Empire United club team for seven years, winning three State Cup and four Thruway League championships.
The Valencia, Spain native Ruano Morales enters his freshman year after playing for Alboraya UD, where he helped capture the league title in 2010.
"This year our coaching staff wanted to bring in a lot of depth," said head coach Kwame Oduro. "Last year, we had a solid 11, but it was tough with injuries and very little depth. So, this year we wanted to make sure we solved that problem."
With so much youth in the midfield, senior Eddie Keen brings experience and leadership, being the lone player on the Bonnies' roster heading into his fourth season with the Brown and White.
"We know we can compete with the big teams," said Keen. "This year with more experience and the high-quality players we brought in, we're sure we can get over the line and get those three points week in and week out. We know we're going to be competing for the conference this year. We know it."
Noel Orozco joins Keen as the other senior midfielder. He made an immediate impact with the Brown and White during his first season in 2015, playing in all 19 games and starting 16.
The Bonnies will open up their season at Hartwick on Friday, Aug. 26. The first game at Marra Athletics Complex will be Sunday, Aug. 28 vs. Bucknell at 1 p.m.
