La Salle Pushes Past @BonniesMSoccer in Atlantic 10 Home Opener

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to visiting La Salle, 3-0, on Saturday evening in the Atlantic 10 home opener at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

After a nearly even opening 25 minutes, the Explorers (5-7-1, 1-2-0 Atlantic 10) finally broke through with a header goal from Andrew Connors. La Salle's leading scorer seized a cross from Mike Liska and found the net from close range for the 1-0 edge.

That score would hold until the early portion of the second period when Liska created more offense for the Explorers. The sophomore crossed into the center of the box in the 49th minute where his pass found Ryan Nork who would slide a shot into the lower 90 for a 2-0 advantage.

La Salle came up with some insurance in the 72nd minute when Conor Nichols fired a shot over the left shoulder of the keeper.

St. Bonaventure (1-11-1, 0-2-0) controlled much of the final 20 minutes, creating several strong scoring chances.

At the head of the Bonnies attack was sophomore Kieran Toland. A rocket off the foot of Toland sailed just wide in the 68th minute, then, four minutes later, he narrowly missed putting the Brown and White on the board with a header effort off a beautiful ball from senior Breno Calegari. Toland's header attempt ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar over a leaping La Salle keeper, landing just in front of the goal line where the Explorers defense was able to clear.

Eddie Keen would also challenge the La Salle keeper with a well-placed attempt from the top of the box on the far wing, but was turned away as the two teams finished even in shots at six apiece during the second half.

Bobby Diaz made six saves for the Bonnies while Cameron Keys earned the win for La Salle with four saves in net.

St. Bonaventure remains at home to face A-10 foe Davidson on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
