LORETTO, Pa. – A St. Francis (Pa.) goal in the 34th minute was enough for the host Red Flash to outlast the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the Stokes SoccerPlex.
St. Francis got on the board off a goal from Andres Vega who connected on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box into the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
It would turn out that Vega's goal would be all the Red Flash (4-1-3) would need, but not without a number of late chances by the Bonnies (1-8-0). Peter Routsis first mounted two charges – he fired a shot wide of the net in the 69th minute, then in the 72nd minute he went high of the goal with a header attempt.
The Bonnies were then awarded back-to-back corner kicks seconds apart in the 74th minute, but again could not break through.
Coach's Corner: "Our team has built on the last game's performance. We defended well, but did not capitalize on our chances," Bonnies head coach Kwame Oduro said. "St. Francis is a very good team and they will do well."
