St. Francis (Pa.) Slips Past @BonniesMSoccer, 1-0

LORETTO, Pa. – A St. Francis (Pa.) goal in the 34th minute was enough for the host Red Flash to outlast the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the Stokes SoccerPlex.

St. Francis got on the board off a goal from Andres Vega who connected on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box into the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

It would turn out that Vega's goal would be all the Red Flash (4-1-3) would need, but not without a number of late chances by the Bonnies (1-8-0). Peter Routsis first mounted two charges – he fired a shot wide of the net in the 69th minute, then in the 72nd minute he went high of the goal with a header attempt.

The Bonnies were then awarded back-to-back corner kicks seconds apart in the 74th minute, but again could not break through.

In the 76th minute, Kyle Kleckner had a shot that was blocked by the St. Francis defense and four minutes later, Eddie Keen delivered a shot that sailed high.

St. Bonaventure was awarded another corner kick with just over 90 seconds remaining, but could not put together a scoring chance in the final moments.
Bobby Diaz turned away six of the seven shots on goal from the Red Flash, marking the sixth time in seven starts that the senior goalkeeper has posted six or more saves for the Bonnies.

Coach's Corner: "Our team has built on the last game's performance. We defended well, but did not capitalize on our chances," Bonnies head coach Kwame Oduro said. "St. Francis is a very good team and they will do well."

Up Next: The Brown and White return to action on Wednesday vs. Binghamton at the Marra Athletic Fields Complex with the start time scheduled for 7 p.m.
