NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team came up short on Friday night at Niagara, 4-0.
Niagara got on the board in the seventh minute when a scrum in front of the Bonaventure net allowed Alex Dimitriu to punch the loose ball into an open net for the 1-0 lead.
The Purple Eagles (1-6) struck again just before halftime when Brandon Galanti went far post, finding the net in the 43rd minute off an assist from Tim Magnusson.
Bonnies keeper Luke Iacobellis turned away a penalty kick try in the 75th minute, but Niagara stretched its lead with a pair of second half scores.
Icobellis faced 13 shots on the night and made a career-high nine saves.
The Bonnies return to action against another Little Three rival, Canisius, on Sunday at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex at 1 p.m. Sunday's match will end a five-game road trip and marks St. Bonaventure's first home contest since the season-opener, a 2-1 win over NJIT on Aug. 28.
