ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Former St. Bonaventure men's soccer midfielder Emmett O'Connor is finding his place in England's Sky Bet League One with the Crawley Town F.C. Reds, who agreed to a one-year deal with the club in July.
Coming off a successful career with the Bonnies that included 17 goals and team-record 24 assists, the midfielder was invited for a trial by Crawley manager John Gregory. After being impressed with O'Connor from pre-season matches against Billingshurst, Oakwood and the Barclay's Premier League's Fulham, he was offered a one-year contract to join the club on July 24, 2014.
"He is the sort of kid that just wants to be a player, works hard at everything he does and gives everything at all times." Crawley Boss told BBC Sussex.
Gregory also went on to add "I have to get some numbers in my squad and he is another squad member. If he was to start 10 games this season I'll be absolutely delighted."
On Tuesday, O'Connor made his first start for the Reds against Cambridge United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Cup. He went on to complete the whole 90 minute match with two shots on net.
With at least 44 games left on tap for the 2014-15 season, O'Connor has appeared in three league matches and two league cup matches for Crawley Town. In a Capital One League cup match against the Barclay's Premier League's Norwich City, O'Connor entered the game in the 64th minute which he won a free kick for the Reds.
Crawley Town F.C. is currently in 16th place out of 24 in the League One table with six points. The Sky Bet League One is the third tier in the English football league system, with Barclay's Premier League being the first tier.
Crawley Town plays against Rochdale A.F.C. for the first time in their history on Saturday, September 6 at 10 a.m. ET. To track O'Connor and Crawley Town F.C. please follow them on twitter at @crawleytown or at www.CrawleyTownFC.com
