On Saturday September 7th, the #18 St. Bonaventure Bonnies took on the #5 Navy Midshipmen. Both sides put penalty kicks through early to make the score 3-3. The Bonnies took the first half with an Alex Chura try in the 15th minute and a long breakaway try by Jon "Shifty" Rodriguez in the 30th minute, both converted by Wes Chiromo. The Bonnies were up 17-3 until a Navy try in the last minute of the first half. Navy regained control of the scoreboard early in the second half and scored several times unanswered. Down 34-17, the Bonnies showed a surge of last-minute energy when Alex Holden broke through the Midshipmen defense with a try converted by Josh Smith. The last minute surge came too late and the Bonnies fell short to the Midshipmen in a hard-fought match. The final score was St. Bonaventure 24, Navy 34.

The Bonnies' performance against Navy moved them up to #15 nationally. This saturday, September 14th, is SBU Rugby Alumni Weekend, highlighted by the annual Rob Peraza Cup. The Bonnies play at home against #18 Notre Dame College on Saturday, September 21st, to open up the season's conference play. The Bonnies and the Falcons will kick off at 1:00 for the Bonnies' homecoming match, and the second of three home games.
