The St. Bonaventure University Athletics Department is proud to announce the construction of a dedicated locker room for the Bonnies' brand new men's lacrosse program. Work began in May as the program continues preparations for its first official season in 2019 with fall exhibition play beginning in 2018.
"For these student-athletes, this is going to be home for the next four years," St. Bonaventure head coach Randy Mearns said.
The area will include a home locker room with 51 individual wooden lockers as well as a visiting locker room area with 31 lockers for opposing teams.
Men's lacrosse will begin as a varsity sport in the 2018-19 academic year. Under the direction of coach Mearns, the top priority for the program is the construction of a dedicated team locker room. The Athletics Department has identified space on the ground floor of the Reilly Center, the current Fastbreak Club, with a projected completion by the end of August.
This project will give the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team the best possible experience and ensure that the program has the necessary facilities to recruit the student-athletes needed to compete for championships.
The locker room will include 51 solid oak, 30-inch lockers with ample space for sticks, shoes, gear and a shelf for helmets as well as a drawer under the seat. The lockers will face inward to facilitate meetings and interaction. The existing ventilation and lighting will be upgraded and the ceiling and carpeting will be replaced. A bath area will be constructed with four showers, four toilets and four sinks.
Room Name - $105,000
Shower/Wet Area - $30,000
Individual Locker - $2,000 each (donor name affixed to locker for its lifespan)
The cost of the project is $175,000. All funds will be raised through private donations.
