St. Bonaventure To Host Detroit Mercy in MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship First Round Friday

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team will play in its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament game this Friday, and it will do so on home turf.

The Bonnies (4-4, 2-4) will host Detroit Mercy (3-3, 3-2) Friday at 1 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex. The game will stream live on ESPN+.

St. Bonaventure is the sixth seed in the tournament and the Titans are the third seed, but due to the departure of Detroit Mercy from the MAAC at the end of the season, the Titans will not act as a host throughout the championship. With the MAAC basing seeding on number of overall conference wins, the Bonnies finished in a tie with Marist (2-0) for the fifth seed, with Marist winning the tiebreaker based on goals allowed to the top seed, Manhattan, since the two teams did not meet head-to-head during the season and both defeated the top seed in the conference ranks.

For Friday's game, St. Bonaventure University and MAAC fan policy will allow two family members per home student-athlete as well as two family members per Detroit Mercy student-athlete to be in attendance. All other off-campus visitors are still not permitted on campus at St. Bonaventure, though Bonnies students and staff are welcome to attend.

The winner of Friday's game advances to the semifinals on Wednesday, May 5 against the winner of No. 2 Monmouth vs. No. 7 Siena.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 Canisius hosts No. 5 Marist and top-seeded Manhattan will receive a bye after Quinnipiac opted out of the remainder of the season due to virus protocols within its program.

St. Bonaventure will look to avenge an 11-7 loss at Detroit Mercy on March 13. The Titans have not played since April 9, a 9-7 setback at Monmouth, while the Bonnies have won back-to-back home games and finished the regular season 3-1 on home field.
