ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team has earned two of the three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards as junior Brett Dobson has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Austin Holley was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.
Dobson made 15 saves in St. Bonaventure's 9-8 victory over Manhattan last Friday. He turned away 65 percent of the shots on goal against him in the Bonnies' first MAAC conference triumph. It is his second MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and his third weekly award during his career. For the year, the Ontario native ranks among the nation's top-10 in save percentage (.600) and has made 81 saves in six games with at least 11 stops in every game this year.
Holley helped the Bonnies to a win over Manhattan, which was previously an undefeated 3-0 in league play, by setting program single-game records for faceoff victories (14) and groundballs (10). He won 14 of 20 faceoff opportunities and was key to the team's victory. He was directly responsible for the goal just before halftime, winning the faceoff and delivering a pass in front of the net. Holley won seven consecutive faceoffs during the first quarter and went 6-for-10 in the faceoff X in the second half.
Holley becomes the third Bonnies player to win MAAC Rookie of the Week all-time, joining Dobson who won the award in 2019, and Jake Rosa who earned the honor last year.
