WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The St. Bonaventure University men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker, 13-12, at Monmouth Saturday afternoon.

Jake Rosa matched his career-high with four goals and added three assists for a team-high seven points, most in program single-game history, to lead the Bonnies. Austin Blumbergs, Zach Owens and Brett Beetow each added two scores for the Brown and White.

Owens gave the Bonnies (1-2, 0-2 MAAC) an 11-10 lead early in the fourth quarter after Monmouth had scored three straight goals to take a three-goal edge in the period.

The Hawks (3-0, 2-0 MAAC) answered with another three goals, taking a 13-11 lead with under five minutes to play.

Rosa brought the Brown and White within one with under two minutes to play, but Monmouth would not allow another goal, securing the win.

The Bonnies used a 7-0 run between the second and third periods to erase a four-goal, 7-3, deficit to take a 10-7 advantage. The Bona defense held the Hawks scoreless for the entire second quarter Saturday.

Monmouth came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, taking a 5-1 lead after the first period of play.

Mark Belles and Nick Slattery also netted scores for the Bonnies while Sean Westley added a pair of assists.

Brett Dobson made 10 saves in the cage.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, March 27 to make their home debut against Quinnipiac. That game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
