Bonnies Finish Third Nationally In HEADstrong Foundation Donations; Raise Over $20,000 To Help Those Battling Cancer

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – With the holiday season upon us, many are looking to do what they can to lend a helping hand to those in need.

The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team has been doing its part to help out nearly this entire semester. The Bonnies raised $20,400 through donations from friends, family and members of the Bonaventure community for the HEADstrong Foundation through the Lacrosse Mustache Madness program.

The HEADstrong Foundation offers financial, residential and emotional support to families impacted by cancer. The organization works to provide resources for patients and their families who are receiving care nationwide. Each Bonnies player participating had his own donation page and the team has its own donation page as well.

All donations go directly to families affected by cancer.

St. Bonaventure finished third nationally in funds raised behind only Endicott College ($22,392) and Colorado College ($21,250). Those two programs and St. Bonaventure were the only three nationally to eclipse the $20,000 mark out of 136 teams taking part. Individually, freshman Cam Germain raised $3,447, ranking sixth in the country for money raised among over 3,100 players and coaches taking part.

"Everyone knows someone in some shape or form affected by cancer," St. Bonaventure assistant coach Nico Capron said. "To see the impact that everybody has been able to make has been incredible. We want to send a huge thank you from the entire St. Bonaventure lacrosse family to everyone that donated, contributed and helped share the word of this initiative. The support from everyone in the community was amazing."

Capron raised $1,605 dollars while junior Jack Kenney brought in an impressive $1,340. Other big fundraisers within the Bonnies were juniors Brett Dobson ($987), Zack Belter ($849) and sophomore Brett Chiodo ($724).

In the past two years combined, the Bonnies have raised over $35,000 total for the cause. As a whole, the lacrosse community registered over $446,000 in donations through LaxStache Madness this year to go toward those fighting cancer and their families.
