ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Several members of the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team are sporting a different look these days – but it's for a very good cause.
Fourteen members of the team shaved their heads this past weekend and while the look might suit some of the players more than others, each one has done their part to support those in need.
The players shaved their heads to take part in Lacrosse For Life, an organization that raises awareness and donations for pediatric research at Boston Children's Hospital. For every player who shaves their head, $1,000 will be donated to support patients at the hospital.
The 14 Bona players shaved their heads as part of their spring break trip with games in North Carolina and Georgia, resulting in a $14,000 donation to Boston Children's Hospital. Money for the donations came from the Lacrosse For Life organization and a donor that pledged funds for every lacrosse player willing to take part in the cause.
St. Bonaventure players have spent much of the winter adopting new looks for good causes – in November, team members grew mustaches as part of a program that raised $14,786 for the HEADstrong Fund. That money went toward support of families impacted by cancer and to raise awareness for research fundraising causes.
