ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team will open its 2020 season at the Buffalo Bills ADPRO Sports Training Center in Orchard Park Sunday, Feb. 9 vs. Saint Joseph's.
Opening face-off is set for 4 p.m.
The season-opener for the Bonnies had previously been announced for home turf at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The facility which serves as the Bills training center received a massive upgrade last year when Terry and Kim Pegula committed $18 million to add 25,000 square feet of space for the NFL team's use. The Feb. 9 contest will mark the first NCAA Division I game at the facility.
"Getting the opportunity to play our season-opener in this facility will be phenomenal for our student-athletes and our program as a whole," St. Bonaventure head coach Randy Mearns said. "I want to thank Pegula Sports & Entertainment for the opportunity. This is something our players will never forget."
Space will be limited to approximately 500 fans inside the facility - there are no permanent seats and fans may bring lawn chairs. There will not be an entrance fee.
"We are so excited for our men's lacrosse program to be playing in such a tremendous facility and to continue strengthening the relationship between the Bills and the University," St. Bonaventure Director of Athletics Tim Kenney said. "This game will be a tremendous way for the team to begin the season and get the ball rolling in 2020."
The Bonnies and Hawks faced off in Philadelphia last year where Saint Joseph's came away with a 15-7 victory. The Hawks finished 2019 at 7-7 overall including a 3-3 record in the Northeast Conference (NEC).
