Gianniny Garners All-Conference Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure senior Danny Gianniny has earned a spot on the 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Golf All-Conference Team, conference officials announced Friday.

Gianniny is one of 10 players honored as one of the Atlantic 10's best in voting by the conference's head coaches. The Pittsford, N.Y. native was outstanding during the Bonnies spring season, registering a 72.6 scoring average across six events and 13 rounds. He posted four top-10s and three top-five finishes in the shortened season and his stroke average would rank as the program's all-time record if over a full campaign.

He tied for 10th in a field of 88 players at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate after a 54-hole total of 216 (72-70-74), then tied for fourth with a 73 at Niagara Falls Country Club as part of Bona's Little Three Championship victory. He continued his hot streak with a second-place finish in a field of 77 competitors at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, finishing the tournament at The Steel Club in 3-under 139 (70-69), matching his own career-best 36-hole total and ranking fourth-lowest in program history. In the next event at the Upstate Spring Escape, he helped the Bonnies to victory over Rhode Island and Colgate. He played Seven Oaks Golf Club in a career-best 5-under 67 which was one off the program record for a low round and best by a Bonnies player since 2018-19. He finished the spring having logged three rounds in the 60s and five rounds of 70 or lower.

Gianniny joins Viraj Garewal and Brian Garrett of Davidson, Henry May and Kyle Schmidt of Dayton, Lou Baker of Richmond, Chris Francoeur of Rhode Island and Kristian Tannum Donaldson, Peter Gasperini and Sachin Kumar of VCU on the All-Conference Team. Gianniny is also the first Bonnies player to be named Atlantic 10 All-Conference since Josh Stauffer following the 2014 season and the fifth player in program history to receive the honor since the current All-Conference Team format was adopted by the A-10 in 2009.

The Bonnies are expected to return their entire starting lineup from this spring for the 2021-22 season.
