Gianniny Takes Second, Bonnies Golfers Place Fourth Overall at Lafayette

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – St. Bonaventure senior Danny Gianniny capped a strong tournament by finishing second alone on the individual leaderboard as the Bonnies came home fourth overall at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational.

St. Bonaventure followed a first round team score of 291 with a final round 299 for a 590 total. Lehigh won the team title at 574 while Rider was second (582) and Villanova finished third (585). Host Lafayette rounded out the top five two strokes back of the Bonnies. SBU was the highest-finishing Atlantic 10 squad, besting fellow conference foes Fordham (seventh, 598), La Salle (eighth, 601) and Saint Joseph's (12th, 627).

Gianniny showed the way with his best finish of the year, capping the week with a 3-under par 69 to complete the 36-hole tournament at 5-under 139. He carded six birdies in Monday's final round, bringing his weekly total to 12. He was red-hot down the stretch, draining birdies at four of the five closing holes. Out of 76 competitors, Gianniny finished behind only Villanova's Ambrose Abbracciamento who won by three strokes (-8) after a scintillating 66 Monday.

Fellow senior Christian Chapman gave the Bonnies another top-10 finish as he ranked tied for sixth, also finishing in red figures at 1-under (70-73/143). Chapman bogeyed the first and third holes Monday, but responded by playing consistently during the rest of the round. He recorded a birdie at the par-3 eighth and was even-par the rest of the way.

Gianniny and Chapman were two of seven players in the field to be under par for the week. Gianniny's 139 36-hole total ties for fourth-lowest in program history, matching his own career-best that he set at Yale during the 2018-19 season.

Freshman Jude Cummings tied for 38th overall (78-75/153) while senior Jack Geise was tied for 48th (76-79/155) and junior Erik Stauderman tied for 55th (77-79/156).

Playing as an individual, junior Andrew Lemay had a solid tournament, finishing tied for 38th after an even-par final round (81-72/153).

The Bonnies will have their final tune-up before the conference championship by taking on Colgate and Rhode Island in a tri-match Saturday and Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y. at Seven Oaks Golf Course.
