Bonnies Tied For Second After Opening Round at Lafayette

HELLERSTOWN, Pa. – St. Bonaventure stands tied for second after a strong opening round Sunday at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational.

The Bonnies turned in a team score of 291 in the first round at The Steel Club, the best single round for St. Bonaventure this spring. St. Bonaventure matched Villanova's 291 while Lehigh showed the way at 278, the only team in red figures. Towson and Rider both posted 297 to round out the top five in the 12-team field.

Seniors Danny Gianniny and Christian Chapman are both in the hunt for the individual crown after carding matching rounds of 2-under par 70. Only Lehigh's David Hurly went lower on the day, owning a 4-shot lead after his 66.

Freshman Jude Cummings also recorded a steady 75, finishing in 3-over for the day.

Also in the lineup for St. Bonaventure are Jack Geise (76) and Erik Stauderman (77). Playing as an individual, Andrew Lemay finished with 81.

The second and final round gets underway with a shotgun start Monday at 9:30 a.m.
