Chapman Takes Ninth as Bonnies Finish Seventh in the Desert

BOULDER CREEK, Nev. – Christian Chapman's top-10 finish highlighted the weekend for the St. Bonaventure golf team outside Las Vegas in the first full field tournament of the spring for the team.

As a team, the Bonnies finished tied for seventh in the 13-team field at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. Oral Roberts won the team crown with a three-round total of 849, destroying the rest of the field. Nevada was second at 871 while Texas State (878), Boston College (880) and Southern Utah (881) rounded out the top five. Utah State was sixth (882), ahead of the Bonnies and South Dakota State (888). SBU finished ahead of Fraser Valley, Missouri State, Stetson, SIU-Edwardsville and Augustana.

The Bonnies opened with a strong Friday round of 290 before settling for 302 in the second round of the day. Saturday, the Bonnies finished at 296 for an 888 team total.

Chapman led the way. He was strong in each round – he opened with a 1-over 73, then was in red figures with 71 in the afternoon round before closing with an even-par 72 for a weekend total of 216. He tied for ninth in the field of 84 competitors with his third top-10 of the year.

Danny Gianniny played solidly as well on his way to a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard. The third-year player finished with 1-over 217 after rounds of 72-72-73.

Jack Geise matched the lowest round by a Bona player for the week with an opening round 1-under 71. He bounced back from a second round 80 with 74 on Saturday for a 225 total and a tie for 35th overall.

Zach Chaddock (77-79-77/233) and Jack Bailey (74-80-82/236) also were in the lineup for the Bonnies.

Playing as individuals, Nolan Ditcher (76-79-77/232) and Erik Stauderman (83-78-81/242) also competed in the event.

Bona returns to action March 22-24 in Williamsburg, Va. for the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.
