EAST AURORA, N.Y. – A pair of St. Bonaventure golfers put together impressive weeks at the 97th annual New York State Men's Amateur Championship as rising juniors Christian Chapman and Danny Gianniny finished tied for eighth and 21st respectively.
After opening the tournament with rounds of 77 and 79 at Crag Burn Golf Club, Chapman flew up the leaderboard during the final two rounds. He found red numbers in the third round with a sparkling 71. He finished with a final round 73 to work his way into the top 10. His tournament total of 300 was eight shots off champion Ben Reichert's 4-over 292. Last year, Chapman finished tied for 16th at the event.
Gianniny, meanwhile, also showed well with a week of even playing – rounds of 78 and 76 helped him make the cut before he finished with a third round 78 and final round 75 for a championship total of 307. It was another strong showing in the New York State Men's Amateur Championship for Gianniny who finished in a tie for 25th two years ago at Bethpage Black and also tied for 21st last year at Irondequoit Country Club.
