BONNIES BRING EXPERIENCE
Four members of the Bonnies lineup have played under Atlantic 10 Championship pressure before and three are getting set for their third A-10 Championship performances – Matt Abendroth, Brent Morgan and Zach Chaddock. Morgan has a scoring average of 74.8 in counting rounds during A-10 Championship play to show the way while Chaddock carded his lowest round as a collegiate player with a final round 69 at the 2017 edition of the championship to take his highest career A-10 finish of 22nd. Last year, Danny Gianniny was Bona's top finisher when he posted rounds of 76-79-78 to finish 32nd overall.
MORGAN CHASING HISTORY
Senior Brent Morgan is capping off his Bonaventure career in style this season. He enters the Atlantic 10 Championship with a season scoring average of 72.8 – matching in both the fall and spring – which would be the lowest single season stroke average in Bonnies history. As of now, that crown belongs to Josh Anderson who recorded an average score of 73.0 during the 2005-06 season. Only one other player – Andy Whalen in 2005-06 as well – recorded a season average under 74 when he finished that year at 73.57. So far this year, Morgan has posted five top-10 finishes and eight top-20 finishes. He's finished outside the top-20 in full field events just twice all year. He's also scored seven rounds of 70 or lower.
AT THEIR BEST AT THE RIGHT TIME
Both Morgan and Gianniny are entering the A-10 Championship following their best finishes of the spring back on April 13 at the Yale Invitational. Gianniny finished the one day, 36-hole event at 1-under par 139 following a first round 70 and second round 69 to take fifth overall out of 72 competitors. Morgan, meanwhile, came home with matching rounds of 70 for an even par 140, good for a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard.
SENIOR SWAN SONGS
Along with Morgan, Matt Abendroth will also be teeing it up for the final time with the Bonnies this weekend. Abendroth has been a regular member of the Bonnies lineup over his four years and has been a contributor this year, averaging a round score of 76.0 in the fall and 75.4 so far this spring. Both Ohio natives are in their third A-10 Championship appearance.
Newcomer Christian Chapman is set to make his Atlantic 10 Championship debut and play in just his second tournament with the Bonnies. Chapman, who debuted with the team by shooting 70 at the Yale Invitational, has been kept out of the lineup due to an injury. He is no stranger to high level collegiate golf though – Chapman joined SBU after a transfer to St. Bonaventure from Delaware prior to the spring semester after registering an average round score of 71.73 over 15 rounds during the fall with the Blue Hens including a low round of 65. He appeared in all but one tournament during his freshman year and also was in the lineup for the Blue Hens in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship last year, finishing in a tie for 35th (79-79-76/234).
