MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Back-to-back rounds of 71 from junior Zach Chaddock led the way for the St. Bonaventure golf team Monday afternoon in 36 holes of action at the Bash at the Beach on The Surf Golf and Beach Club.
As a team, the Bonnies are in fifth place after turning in rounds of 295 and a strong 285 in the afternoon for a total of 580. Jacksonville State (554) leads the field of 13 teams by six shots, ahead of George Washington (561), Wake Forest (563), Incarnate Word (575) and the Bonnies.
Chaddock, who finds himself tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard out of 86 players, carded three birdies in his opening round at the 6,741-yard par-71 layout and followed that up with another even-par afternoon 18 including four birdies.
Senior Brent Morgan is just one shot off his teammate's pace, tying for 19th through two rounds after a 143 total following rounds of 71 and 72.
Fellow senior Matt Abendroth played a solid first day as well with matching rounds of 72 for a 144 total, good for a tie for 23rd.
Sophomore Danny Gianniny struggled in the morning to an 81, but rebounded nicely in the afternoon for a 1-under 70 and a 151 total for the tournament. Also in the team scoring for Bona was freshman Erik Stauderman (84-83/167).
The final round gets underway Tuesday morning.
