ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure golf head coach Ryan Swanson has announced the addition of Christian Chapman to the program. Chapman is a sophomore transfer from the University of Delaware who will be eligible to play with the Bonnies during the spring semester.
"We are very excited to have Christian join us for the next two and a half years. He has built quite the resume the last couple years and is coming off a tremendous fall," Swanson said. "SBU is going to be a great fit for him and we are thrilled to gain his extensive tournament experience. He is fully on board and can't wait to join us in our quest for an A-10 title."
Chapman played three semesters at Delaware, including posting an average round score of 71.73 over 15 rounds this past fall. He fired a career best round of 65 and a 54-hole total of 207 for a tie for fourth at the Golfweek Program Challenge this past October, with each of those scores representing the second-best marks in Delaware program history. He was also a consistent contributor for the Blue Hens, finishing top-20 in four of five tournaments including two top-10 finishes during the fall season.
As a freshman at Delaware, he appeared in all but one tournament and ranked fifth on the team with a 75.59 stroke average. He also earned Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Week honors once during his first collegiate season.
A native of Victor, N.Y., he won the 2016 New York State Junior Championship with a six-under par score of 68-70-138 and he was also a two-time All-State selection. A four-time All-Greater Rochester pick, he captured the 2016 Section V Championship. He also carded a round of 63 during an AJGA event at Saucon Valley CC during summer 2016 before finishing fourth at the 2017 New York State High School Championship and taking fourth as well in the 2017 NYS Junior Championship.
This past summer, he partnered with Bonnies sophomore Danny Gianniny to win the Cobblestone Scratch team championship.
The Bonnies begin their spring season with the Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship in Florida Feb. 18-19.
