St. Bonaventure golf commit Erik Stauderman recently wrapped up his high school career with an impressive spring.
The product of Spackenkill High School captured a tie for fifth place at the New York State High School Golf Championships. Stauderman fired a 3-over-par 74 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca during his final round, finishing the tournament with a 149 total after posting an opening round 75.
He earned entry into the state championships after winning the NYS Section 9 championship in late May at Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie. He won the title after shooting an even par 72, taking the crown by one stroke with a two-day total of 147.
His top-five finish at states earned him a spot in the NYS Federation Golf Championships, open to private and public school standouts across the state, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale on June 9.
There, he kept his strong play alive – and then some.
Stauderman won the Federation championship on a second playoff hole after tying public school champion Adam Xiao of Manhasset at 74 through 18 holes. After both players took a four on the first playoff hole, Stauderman carded a par-3 on the 18th while Xiao made bogey to hand the title to the future Bonnie.
He and fellow fall commit Andrew Lemay join a Bonnies roster that returns eight players including four of its five regular lineup members from a season ago when the team captured three tournament victories.
The Bonnies kick of the 2018-19 season Sept. 8-9 at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial in Hamilton, N.Y.
