NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure University rising senior Patrick Sheerer has earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Golf All-Academic Team, officials announced Thursday.
Sheerer is one of five Atlantic 10 players to earn a spot on the team, joining Jack Lang of Davidson, Eric Edwards and Brock Kovach of George Mason and Billy Walthouse of Rhode Island.
A finance major with a 3.90 cumulative GPA, Sheerer played in 11 tournaments for the Bonnies during his junior season with an average score of 77.5. During the fall campaign, he set the Bonnies all-time record for low round by firing a 66 to lead the team to a win at the Binghamton Invitational last September.
In all, the native of Pittsburgh recorded three top-15 finishes as a junior, including a fifth place finish at the Colonial Golf Classic during the spring. He has also earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester of his college career.
Sheerer and his teammates were all extremely successful in the classroom last year as the golf team posted the best cumulative GPA of any St. Bonaventure program during the Spring 2017 semester at 3.70.
The Bonnies will return every member of their regular lineup from a year ago for the 2017-18 season after turning in one of the best years in recent memory under head coach Ryan Swanson, taking home two victories and three top-two finishes.
