NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure University freshman Nolan Ditcher has earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors, conference officials announced Thursday.
Ditcher takes his first Atlantic 10 weekly honor after perhaps his strongest week as a collegiate player. The Randolph, N.Y. native led the Bonnies to a second-place finish at the Colonial Golf Classic earlier this week held at Montour Heights Country Club outside Pittsburgh. The first-year player led the tournament after Monday's opening round following a 72, his lowest round as a collegiate player.
He would finish tied for third in the field of 55 players following a final round 78 for his best overall finish in a tournament this season.
The award continues a fine spring for the freshman, who joined the Bonnies lineup beginning with two victories in February's Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship. He owns a stroke play average of 77.6 in three tournaments so far this spring.
"Nolan has come so far since the fall," St. Bonaventure head coach Ryan Swanson said. "Last week, it was great to see him combine all phases of his game. He has been working incredibly hard on his short game and it is paying off. I think we are yet to see him at his best, but he is certainly trending in the right direction and as his coach it is very exciting to see him grow into a really good collegiate player so young in his career."
Ditcher becomes the second Bonnies freshman to earn an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week nod this season - Zach Chaddock captured the award for the week of Oct. 6.
St. Bonaventure, which earned its third top-two finish of the year this past week, is back in action April 17-18 at the Rhode Island Invitational at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingston, R.I.
