Stauffer named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure's Josh Stauffer has been rewarded by the Atlantic 10 for his strong play to open his college golf career.

The A-10 named Stauffer the conference's Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, after he earned a pair of top-15 finishes in his first two collegiate events. The Bonnies' freshman was recognized for events played through Sept. 11.

Stauffer placed third at the Little Three Invitational on Sept. 5 and 14th among 79 golfers at the Navy Fall Classic, Sept. 8-9. The Bradford, Pa., native began his college career with a two-round 149 (74-75) at the par-72, 7,001-yard Harvest Hill Golf Club in Orchard Park, N.Y., before firing 74-72-146 at the par-71 U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course to lead the Bonnies to their second-place finish among 16 teams.

The last SBU golfer to be recognized by the Atlantic 10 is current assistant coach Kevin Lewis, who was named Co-Golfer of the Week for April 11-17, 2012.

Stauffer helped lead a consistent St. Bonaventure team that saw four players place among the top 14 or better at Navy. The Bonnies aim to build on their success at Navy when they host the 24th annual Leo Keenan Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Bartlett Country Club.
