NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure junior Jaren Holmes turned in one of the best performances in Reilly Center history in a victory last week and has earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
Holmes poured in a career-high 38 points in the Jan. 6 victory over Saint Joseph's, going 14-for-22 from the floor and 8-for-12 from beyond the arc. He added 10 rebounds for a double-double, also pitching in three assists. The 38 points are the most by any A-10 player in a single game this season while his eight threes are tied for a conference season high.
No Bona player has tallied more points in a single game since Jaylen Adams scored 40 points in two separate contests during February 2018 (including 44 in one game) while the eight three-pointers are tied for third-most in program history and the most since Matt Mobley's nine threes in the 2018 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Further, Holmes' scoring effort ranks tied for eighth in Reilly Center history by a Bonnies player, matching the 38 points scored by the legendary Bob Lanier vs. Fairfield on Feb. 8, 1969. Lanier also holds the single game Bona RC scoring record with 51 set Feb. 24, 1969 vs. Seton Hall. During the Mark Schmidt Era, only three Bona players have surpassed Holmes' scoring effort in Reilly Center games – Adams with 44 vs. Saint Louis in 2018; Andrew Nicholson's 44 vs. Ohio in a 2010 game which went four overtimes and Eric Mosley with 39 vs. UMass in 2013.
For the season, Holmes leads the Bonnies with 14.4 points per contest while ranking second in the A-10 by shooting 52.2 percent from long distance.
Holmes becomes the first Bonnies player to be selected Atlantic 10 Player of the Week since Adams for his 40-point effort on Feb. 12, 2018.
