St. Bonaventure makes the short trip north to play its first road game this season, visiting Niagara for a Big 4 rivalry game on Monday night. The Bonnies, who topped Jackson State on Saturday with only eight scholarship players, are 1-1 on the young season. This will be the Purple Eagles' season-opener.
This will be St. Bonaventure's only contest in the Buffalo region this year. It will be a homecoming of sorts for the Bonnies' two Buffalo natives, Amadi Ikpeze and Dominick Welch.

• The status of senior forward LaDarien Griffin, who suffered a knee injury in the Bucknell game, is uncertain. Sophomore Tshiefu Ngalakulondi started in place of Griffin against Jackson State. Senior forward Courtney Stockard is not expected to play; he missed the first two games as he is still recovering from an off-season knee procedure. Junior Melkisedek Moreaux, who is recovering from a hyperextension to his knee, is also not expected to play.
• In stark contrast to last year's very experienced team, this year's team has five players who have not played Division I basketball before this season -- four freshmen and Moreaux. The four freshmen are combining to average 31.5 points per game.
• Junior guard Jalen Poyser began his St. Bonaventure career with games of 13 and 23 points. He set a career best with his 23 points against Jackson State.
• After Monday's game, the Bonnies' next action will be in the Cayman Islands Classic.  St. Bonaventure's first game there will be against Georgia State on Nov. 19 at 5 p.m.

Series History
• The Bonnies won six of their last seven games against Niagara. Last season, the Purple Eagles won by two points at the Reilly Center. Bona All-American Jaylen Adams did not play that night.
• This will be the 159th meeting in the series, which the Bonnies lead 88-70. It is St. Bonaventure's second-most played rivalry behind Canisius. The first meeting was in the 1920-21 season. St. Bonaventure last visited the Gallagher Center in 2013.

St. Bonaventure vs. Niagara: The Last Meeting
Nov. 10, 2017 at Reilly Center: Niagara 77, Bonnies 75
A game without its All-American candidate turned even more sour for St. Bonaventure when the Bonnies dropped their season opener. Playing without senior point guard Jaylen Adams (ankle), the Bonnies fell into an early hole and then saw their second half comeback fall just short.  After a cold-shooting first half, St. Bonaventure trailed 34-25 at the break. With 7:47 left in the game, a three-pointer by Courtney Stockard gave the Bonnies their first lead since the opening minutes at 56-55. The game remained close until a three-pointer by Kahlil Dukes followed by a Matt Scott layup put Niagara ahead 70-63 with 3:17 left.  Matt Mobley's three-pointer with 15 seconds left pulled St. Bonaventure within 74-72. After Niagara's Chris Barton made one of two free throws, Mobley's pass eluded Nelson Kaputo as the Bonnies looked to shoot a potential game-tying shot.  St. Bonaventure did not help its cause by going 21-31 at the free throw line for the game.
Mobley led the Bonnies with 29 points, adding nine rebounds.  LaDarien Griffin recorded the first double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kaputo finished with 11 points while Stockard added nine.
