PHILADELPHIA – La Salle set the tone early and never looked back on the way to an 8-2 victory over the St. Bonaventure baseball team Sunday afternoon.

The Explorers (24-13, 9-3 A-10) needed just two hits to plate three runs in the first inning after working two walks in the first three batters to set the table.

St. Bonaventure (5-16, 4-8) got a run back in the second after a double from Garrett Boldt set up a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kevin Higgins.

La Salle seized all control with four in the third, though, for a 7-1 advantage.

Three consecutive singles from Tyler Kelder, Matthew Williams and Pierce Hendershot set up a run in the eighth, but that would be all the Bonnies could get.

Bona actually outhit La Salle by a 10-9 margin with Hendershot and Jackson DeJohn each posting a pair of hits and eight Bonnies players hitting safely on the day. Unfortunately for the Bonnies, though, the Brown and White left nine men on base in their attempt to rally from the early deficit.

St. Bonaventure has a bye week from Atlantic 10 competition next weekend and will host Eastern Michigan in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday, May 1 at Handler Park.
