PHILADELPHIA – Seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings helped La Salle erase an early St. Bonaventure lead and sent the Explorers to a 10-2 win to open an Atlantic 10 baseball series Friday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love.
St. Bonaventure led early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to the sixth home run of the season for Tyler Kelder. Brendyn Stillman worked a one-out walk, then trotted home when Kelder blasted a shot to left-center.
La Salle got a run back in the home half of the first, but Bona's lead would prevail until the fifth. The hosts scored three runs on three hits in their fifth trip to the plate, with what turned out to be the winning runs coming in to score following a double to left from Tatem Levins. Nick O'Day then led off the sixth with a homer to left before three unearned runs broke the game open.
Liam Devine started and worked 5.2 innings for the Bonnies, striking out three and allowing five earned runs on six hits. Tripp Breen (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) followed in relief and Cody Shimp (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) made his official Bona debut out of the bullpen.
The teams are back in action for a doubleheader Saturday. The first of two seven-inning games is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
