Bonnies Split Series With Hawks After Sunday Saint Joseph's Win

Box Score (PDF)

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Saint Joseph's took control with a five-spot in the second inning and never looked back, salvaging a series split with St. Bonaventure, 11-3, Sunday afternoon at sun-soaked Handler Park.

The Hawks (11-8, 6-2 A-10) scored five runs on the benefit of just two hits in the second inning to set the tone.

St. Bonaventure (4-13, 3-5) looked to rally back in the home half of the second, scoring a run on a Saint Joseph's throwing error and another tally when Branden Myers singled home Danny Manion.

The Bonnies got within 5-3 after three frames following a Tyler Kelder double that resulted in a sacrifice fly from Matthew Williams and that score remained until the seventh. Saint Joseph's put the game on ice, though, with two in the seventh and four more in the eighth.

Myers and Manion both had two hits for the Bonnies. Andrew White started and struck out four in 6.1 innings while Kyle Caringi and Luke Lashutka combined to pitch two scoreless innings of relief.

Brendan Hueth led the offensive charge for Saint Joseph's by driving in five runs.

SBU travels to La Salle for another four-game Atlantic 10 series Friday through Sunday. Friday's first game is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
