Bonnies Baseball Announces 2021 Team Captains

St. Bonaventure baseball head coach Larry Sudbrook has announced Andrew White, Donovan Moffat, Kevin Higgins and Tyler Kelder as team captains for the 2021 season.

White, a right-handed pitcher from Buffalo, is a member of the team's conference starting rotation. He was slotted for the A-10 rotation last season before the spring sports shutdown, pitching in three non-conference games with 15 strikeouts in 8.2 innings of work. Last season was his Bonnies debut, though he joined the team the year before and redshirted following an injury after transferring to St. Bonaventure. He is a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and played for the back-to-back New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) champion Olean Oilers during summer ball.

Moffat, a fifth-year left-hander from Pavilion, N.Y., has been a mainstay on the team's pitching staff since his rookie season of 2017 when he was on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, working both out of the bullpen and as a conference starter. He struck out 18 batters in 14 innings with a 3.21 ERA last year and ranked tied for third in A-10 ERA with a mark of 2.58 in 21 appearances during his junior season of 2019. Also a member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and a recent selection to the NCAA Emerging Leaders seminar, he ranks third in program history for both career ERA (3.23) and appearances (69).

Kelder, a redshirt junior outfielder from Kingston, N.Y., was off to an electric start last spring. He earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Player of the Week honors after going 11-for-20 with six home runs in a three-game sweep at Mount St. Mary's to begin the year. He finished the year ranking third nationally in slugging percentage (1.097) and led the country in home runs per game. In 90 career games, he is a .273 hitter with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs. He is also on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Higgins, a fifth-year senior second baseman from North Attleboro, Mass., is in his third season with the program after transferring to St. Bonaventure. In his first full season with the Bonnies, he hit .264 with 27 RBIs, starting 43 games in 2019. He was second on the team in RBIs and posted 10 extra-base hits. Last season, he was entrenched as the team's starter at second again prior to the season being cut short.

The Bonnies open the season Saturday with a doubleheader at UMBC. Atlantic 10 play begins April 9.
