ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A trio of St. Bonaventure baseball players will return to campus for fall ball after picking up accolades during their play in summer leagues.
Rising junior Tyler Kelder was tremendous for the Saugerties Stallions of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). He earned a spot on the PGCBL All-Star roster midway through the season and also participated in the league's Home Run Derby, reaching the finals before falling to Trae Harmon of Kentucky.
Following the season, Kelder was named First Team All-PGCBL after finishing the summer with a .315 batting average, five home runs and 33 RBIs along with 12 doubles and helped Saugerties to the PGCBL Playoffs. Last season for the Bonnies, he hit .293 with nine homers, 15 doubles and 33 RBIs as a sophomore.
Kevin Higgins, who will be a senior this season for St. Bonaventure, also was named to the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) All-Star rosters before earning post-season All-League honors as well.
Higgins led the Hornell Dodgers by hitting .356 in 39 games this summer, adding three home runs and 27 RBIs. He spent last season as Bona's every day second baseman, hitting .264 with 27 RBIs in 43 games.
Another rising senior, right-hander Murphy O'Brien also received NYCBL post-season All-League awards. O'Brien earned five wins on the hill for the Olean Oilers, finishing the summer with a 5-2 record and a 4.45 ERA. He struck out 45 batters in 34.1 innings and also tossed one shutout for the Oilers. He has appeared in 49 games the past three seasons for St. Bonaventure, winning seven games.
