ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Five runs in the top of the 11th sent La Salle to a victory over the rally-minded St. Bonaventure baseball team, 10-5, Saturday afternoon at Fred Handler Park.

St. Bonaventure (5-12, 3-3 Atlantic 10) scored twice in the ninth to force extra innings.

Facing La Salle closer Connor Hinchliffe, who entered the game with an 0.96 ERA and eight saves, the Bonnies rallied for the tie. A walk set the table for Kevin Koziol who tripled for a 5-4 score. An Explorers throwing error allowed Koziol to score the tying run.

The Bonnies nearly won it in walk-off fashion when Tyler Kelder drilled a ball to deep left, but it curved foul and Colin Kennedy recovered to pick up the final out of the inning for the Explorers.

In the 11th, La Salle finally broke it open.

Pinch hitter Ross Mulhall delivered an RBI double with one away to break the tie and Nick DiVietro ended all doubt with a grand slam, giving La Salle (14-14, 1-5) control.

La Salle scored first with a run in the third, but three from the Bonnies in the home half gave them the lead. Kelder doubled home two runs and later scored on a throwing error for a 3-1 score.

The lead lasted until the fifth when La Salle scored three runs on just one hit. The visitors led by a run until the ninth when Ryan Guckin plated a run with a single to right, setting the stage for the final innings.

Brandon Henshaw lengthened his hit streak to 12 straight games with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Koziol, meanwhile, went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Ben Contento started and went four-plus innings on the hill, striking out three (4.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K). Casey Vincent pitched extremely well in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing just one base runner to a walk.

Joshua Pittman (2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) also pitched well in relief.

The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday at Cornell and then head to Penn State Wednesday in mid-week action before hosting Dayton for a three-game A-10 series next weekend.
