OXFORD, Ohio – A seven-run first from the St. Bonaventure baseball team would not be enough as Miami (OH) stormed back for an 18-10 victory Friday evening in the first of a three-game non-conference series.
St. Bonaventure (1-7) started strong, sending 12 men to the plate and scoring seven times.
Tyler Kelder started the scoring with an RBI single and Matthew Williams followed by plating another with a double to left center. A Kevin Higgins hit made it 3-0 before Daniel Stauffer worked a bases loaded walk to bring home another runner.
Unfortunately for the Bonnies, the Redhawks (13-3) would battle right back.
Miami got five runs back in the home half of the first, then took the lead with four more in the second.
From there, the hosts played tack-on.
Miami scored one run in each of the third through fifth innings, then twice more in the sixth and four in the eighth.
St. Bonaventure picked up a run-scoring double from Higgins in the fourth, a sac fly from Kelder in the seventh and another RBI base hit from Stauffer in the eighth.
The two teams renew acquaintances Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
