DAYTON, Ohio – The bats went quiet for the St. Bonaventure baseball team Sunday afternoon in Dayton as the host Flyers used two big innings on the way to sailing to a 12-0 victory in an Atlantic 10 series rubber game at Woerner Field.

The victory gives the Flyers the series win after the teams had split the first two games of the weekend and improves the hosts to 10-25 overall and 4-8 in A-10 play while the Bonnies now stand 8-22 and 4-9 in conference action.

The Flyers struck in the fifth inning for the game's first scoring. The leadoff man reached on a bunt single and Tate Hagan smacked a homer for a 2-0 score. Later in the inning, the Flyers took advantage of another defensive miscue, scoring a pair of runs on a single to right and a fifth run crossed the plate following a double. By the time the fifth inning was over, the Dayton lead was 7-0 and the hosts had the game well in hand.

That score remained until the seventh when Dayton put the game away completely with a run in that inning and four more in the eighth.

St. Bonaventure could not solve Dayton starter Aaron Ernst as he improved to 2-2 on the year with a complete game shutout, scattering six hits.

Mike Magnanti went 2-for-3 to lead the offense while Sam Fuller, Jake Foden, David Vaccaro and Tyler Kelder all had one hit apiece.

Ben Contento (1-3) started and threw 4.2 innings, striking out five. James Wetter worked 1.1 scoreless innings and Roman Wild also tossed a scoreless frame of relief.

The Bonnies return home to host George Washington Friday, April 27 in the first of a three-game series at Fred Handler Park.
