Western Michigan Rallies Past Bonnies, 8-4

Box Score (PDF)

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth erased what was a Bonnies lead and sent Western Michigan to an 8-4 victory over the St. Bonaventure baseball team Saturday afternoon.

Western Michigan (4-4) led early after plating a pair of runs in the second and added another run in the third for a 3-0 advantage.

St. Bonaventure (2-5) answered back with three runs in the third, however, to even the score.

Ryan MacCarrick put the Bonnies on the board by roping a single to left, bringing home Mike Magnanti for a 3-1 score. Later in the inning, Alexander Ferlanda came through with some two-out magic, delivering a single to left with the bases loaded to score MacCarrick and Brandon Henshaw for the tie.

The 3-3 score remained until the sixth when the Bonnies claimed the lead.

Sam Fuller singled with one out, getting into scoring position by stealing second. Henshaw then gave the Bonnies more two-out thunder with a double to center with two down, bringing in Fuller for a 4-3 edge.

Unfortunately for the Bonnies, that lead would be short-lived.

Two singles and a double to lead off the seventh by the Broncos tied the game, then a sac fly from Drew Devine provided what would turn out to be the winning run.

In the eighth, the Broncos added insurance with three more to take control.

Henshaw, MacCarrick and Magnanti all had two hits apiece as the Bonnies saw six of their nine hits come from the top three spots in the order. Fuller also delivered two hits on the afternoon.

Casey Vincent started and worked five innings (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). Donovan Moffat (0-1) (1.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) and Murphy O'Brien (2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) each threw multiple innings of relief.

The Bonnies close out their stay in Florida by wrapping up the three-game set with Western Michigan Sunday morning.
