PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Rutgers opened the game with runs in each of the first three innings to set the tone, downing the St. Bonaventure baseball team by a 13-4 score Saturday afternoon at South Regional Park in the Snowbird Classic.

Rutgers (2-3) scored twice in the opening frame, then added three in the second and another in the third for an early 6-0 lead.

St. Bonaventure (0-2) got a run back in the third following an RBI single from Tyler Kelder, plating Brandon Henshaw.

Bona picked up another run in the fourth as Mike Magnanti was credited with an RBI after a ball hit to third that was misplayed while Sam Fuller came in to score after a leadoff walk.

The Scarlet Knights ended Bona's momentum in the middle innings, however, tacking on three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take complete control.

Kelder delivered a pair of hits while Jake Miknis also added an RBI. Freshman Daniel Stauffer posted his first collegiate hit and Fuller also stole a base.

Nate Grant (2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 0 K) got the start while Murphy O'Brien (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K) and Michael Krauza (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K) each worked scoreless frames out of the bullpen. Ben Contento (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) made his first appearance in over a year after sitting out last season due to injury.
