ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Middle inning production from the Saint Louis offense sent the Billikens to a 9-4 victory Sunday over the St. Bonaventure baseball team in the rubber game of a three-game Atlantic 10 series at the Billiken Sports Center.

Saint Louis (17-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10) scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away.

The Bonnies (7-9, 2-4) got on the board first with a run in the third. Taishi Terashima doubled to lead off and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Tommy LaCongo. T.J. Baker got the job done with a run-scoring single to left for a 1-0 lead.

Three runs in the fourth gave the Billikens the advantage, but they handed it away in the very next inning.

Terashima got the Bonnies in business in the fifth with a single and a steal of second, but with runners at second and third with two outs following a walk to Baker, it seemed as though a strikeout would end the threat. After Ryan MacCarrick went down swinging, however, he was able to reach base and Terashima scored when the Billikens catcher threw the ball away trying to complete the punch out. Another wayward throw from the Saint Louis pitcher allowed a second run to cross the plate for a 3-3 tie following a crazy sequence of events.

The tie would be short-lived, though, as the hosts immediately answered back. An RBI single from Nick Mehlin broke the deadlock and a wild pitch made it a 5-3 game. Two more runs came across in the sixth and eighth to allow SLU to seize control.

Baker brought home another run with a double in the ninth, but the Bonnies could get no closer.

Aaron Phillips started and was tagged with three runs in four innings, striking out three.

Baker, Terashima and David Vaccaro all had two hits apiece for Bona.

The Bonnies are slated to host their home opener Tuesday vs. Big 4 rival Buffalo in a doubleheader Tuesday at Fred Handler Park with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
