STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University baseball team finishes its regular season schedule with a three-game set at Saint Joseph's this week. The Bonnies are still alive in the hunt for the Atlantic 10 tournament, entering the week at 9-12 in conference play.

A-10 TOURNAMENT PICTURE: Seven teams qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and the Bonnies still have life entering the final week. St. Bonaventure stands ninth in the conference standings and needs a sweep at Saint Joseph's – Richmond is idle this week from A-10 play having already finished its conference slate. The Spiders are eighth at 11-13 in league play and would own the conference tiebreaker over the Bonnies due to their 8-7 record against like A-10 opponents. Davidson is currently in the seventh and final spot in the conference standings at 10-11 and finishes with three games at VCU.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S: The Hawks have locked up a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, which opens next Wednesday at Fordham, but could still be seeded anywhere from first to sixth in the tourney bracket.

  • Joe's has won five straight games and is led by sophomore catcher Deon Stafford who leads the A-10 in batting average (.395) and home runs (17).
  • John Brue has also smacked 15 home runs this season. In all, the Hawks have totaled 52 round-trippers on the year, ranking 16th in the nation.
  • The rotation is led by a pair of freshmen – Tim Brennan and Lucas Rollins pace the staff with a 2.54 and 3.36 ERA respectively.

MILESTONE WATCH: A pair of St. Bonaventure seniors will try to continue moving up the program record books this week. Right-hander Connor Grey enters this week with 186 career strikeouts, including 80 this season to rank second in the Atlantic 10. He is five punchouts away from the SBU season record of 85 held by Vance Cozier (1999). Grey also ranks seventh in career strikeouts, needing four more to move into sixth.

Thad Johnson enters the week with 197 career hits and will look to become the eighth Bonnies player in program history to record 200 hits.

SEASON TO REMEMBER: Sophomore starter Brandon Schlimm ranks third in the Atlantic 10 this season with a 1.97 ERA. That ERA currently ranks as the second lowest in Bonas season history. Kyle Johnson's 1.88 is the lowest in season history (2001) while Brian Pellegrini posted a 1.98 ERA in 2005. Schlimm's seven victories also are tied for fourth in season history.

STILL THE BEST: Bona starts the final week of the season still ranking seventh in national ERA and leading the rest of the Atlantic 10 by a wide margin. SBU (2.81) is more than a run ahead of the next lowest A-10 ERA – VCU at 3.82. The Bonnies pitching staff also leads the A-10 in opposing batting average, runs allowed, doubles allowed, and home runs allowed.

WALTER AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS: Senior Tyler Walter currently holds a .329 batting average on the season, ranking eighth in the A-10.
