DAYTON, Ohio – Back-to-back two-out, run-scoring ninth inning hits from Taishi Terashima and Cole Peterson lifted the St. Bonaventure baseball team past Dayton, 4-3, in Friday's Atlantic 10 series opener.

St. Bonaventure moves to 15-11-1 overall on the year and 3-4 in A-10 play while Dayton falls to 11-23, 3-7.

Tied 2-2 after eight innings, the Bonnies broke through with clutch hitting from the top of the order. Dayton's Sam Brunner retired the first two batters of the inning before surrendering a single to center off the bat of Aaron Phillips. Terashima then turned on a 2-2 pitch, doubling to left and scoring Phillips all the way from first to break the tie. One batter later, Peterson also delivered with two strikes, singling to center to score Terashima.

That extra run proved crucial as the Flyers rallied in their last at-bat. A hit batter and catcher's interference put runners at first and second with two outs for Nick Ryan who punched a single into center for a 4-3 score. With the tying run at third and winning run at first, St. Bonaventure reliever Reid Van Woert coaxed a ground out to shortstop to end the threat.

Bona starter Connor Grey was again outstanding, scattering four hits over seven innings of work while allowing only one earned run and striking out five. Though he has allowed just five hits in his last 14 innings, it would be another no-decision for Grey.

Dayton's Charlie Dant was equally strong, giving up two unearned runs on five hits over eight innings.

Van Woert (3-1) picked up the win with 1.2 innings of one-hit work.

Peterson and Tommy LaCongo both had two hits for the Bonnies, who outhit the Flyers by an 8-6 margin.

The two teams square off again on Saturday afternoon with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
