PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Villanova pounded out 11 hits on the way to a 7-3 victory to close out a weather-abbreviated series vs. the St. Bonaventure baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
Due to impending rain in the forecast, Sunday's scheduled series finale has been canceled and will not be made up.
Following Saturday's action, St. Bonaventure has an 11-10-1 overall record while Villanova improves to 11-17.
Bonaventure's usual leadoff man Taishi Terashima moved to third in the batting order for head coach Larry Sudbrook on Saturday and came through early with a big RBI double. The junior doubled down the right field line, scoring both David Vaccaro and Jared Baldinelli for a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
Unfortunately for the Bonnies, that lead would be short-lived.
Villanova answered with three runs, two of which were unearned, in the home half of the inning to take a lead it would not relinquish.
The Wildcats added two more in the fifth to take control.
Bona pushed across an unearned run in the sixth, but 'Nova added two more in the eighth.
Terashima went 2-for-4 with his double being the only extra base hit of the afternoon for the Brown and White.
Brandon Schlimm (2-3) started and went six innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Aaron Phillips worked two innings of relief, allowing a run on two hits while also fanning a pair of batters.
Wildcat pitchers Kagan Richardson (1-3) and Ryan Doty combined to limit Bonaventure to six hits.
The Bonnies start a busy week at home beginning on Tuesday with a doubleheader vs. Cornell at 2 p.m. St. Bonaventure is scheduled to play six home games this week, also facing non-conference Bucknell for one nine inning game on Wednesday before hosting Atlantic 10 rival UMass Friday-Sunday.
