Bonnies Defeat Maine, 4-3

PORT CHARLOTTLE, Fla. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team improved to 6-2 as they defeated Maine, 4-3, in the Snowbird Baseball Classic.

The Bonnies struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Aaron Phillips worked a one-out walk, and scored on a double from Tommy LaCongo to put the Bonnies up, 1-0.
SBU grabbed two more the next inning. Taishi Terashima earned a lead-off single and advanced to third on consecutive groundouts.  Terashima then scored on an RBI single from David Vaccaro, who came around to score himself on a Ted Dilts RBI single.

Maine claimed two runs in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 3-2, but the Bonnies responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame as Dilts hammered his second home run of the season to make it 4-2 in favor of the Brown and White.

One more run from Maine in the top of the seventh brought the score to 4-3, but two shutdown innings in relief from Reid Van Woert held the Bona lead and earned them the victory.

Connor Grey picked up the win for the Bonnies on the mound, improving to 2-1 on the season. Grey tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.

Van Woert earned his second save of the season as he threw two hitless innings with three strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Terashima and Dilts led the way offensively for the Bonnies, each going 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Cole Peterson, Jared Baldinelli, Matt Eastman, Vaccaro and LaCongo added a hit apiece to make up the Bonnies' nine total hits.
