PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – St. Bonaventure scored another series victory on Sunday, defeating Central Connecticut by a 6-2 score.

With the win, the Bonnies improve to 5-2 overall on the season, taking the series with Central Connecticut (1-2) two games-to-one.

Central Connecticut struck first, scoring two unearned runs in the top of the first.

St. Bonaventure cut the deficit in half with a run in the third on an RBI single from Cole Peterson for a 2-1 score.

The Blue Devils threatened multiple times to extend the lead, but could not do any further damage against Bonnies starter Aaron Phillips.

An RBI double from Matt Eastman in the fourth would tie the score, 2-2.

In the sixth inning, the Bonnies pulled ahead with a pair of runs. Tyler Walter doubled to lead off the inning and would score on a triple off the bat of David Vaccaro for the lead. St. Bonaventure added on with a sac fly RBI from Tommy LaCongo to score Vaccaro.

Bona would gain insurance in the seventh. Alex Schutz walked to leadoff and moved to third on a pair of groundouts. Thad Johnson then brought Schutz home with a run-scoring single, moving to third on a two-base throwing error by the Central Connecticut left fielder. One batter later, Johnson scored on a passed ball.

Phillips worked his way out of multiple jams as the Blue Devils left 10 men on base for the afternoon. The reigning Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week worked 5.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits. Phillips walked four and struck out one.

Nate Grant earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, posting a perfect line score with one strikeout. Reid Van Woert worked 1.1 scoreless innings and Thad Johnson picked up his first save of the year by working around a single in the ninth to lock down the win.

Johnson also posted two of the Bonnies' seven hits on the day.

The Bonnies remain in Florida to play vs. Maine on Friday, with four more games left on the trip before heading back north.
