75 SBU Student-Athletes Named To A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll

SBU A-10 Commissioner’s Honorees

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Seventy-five St. Bonaventure student-athletes earned Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction for the Fall 2012 semester, the league announced on Friday.

To be listed on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.

"To have 75 of our student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll is impressive and each one of them should be commended for their efforts and dedication in the classroom," St. Bonaventure Director of Athletics Steve Watson said. "I’d like to thank the professors guiding our high-achieving student-athletes, and to have so many of successful student-athletes demonstrates the commitment and importance of academics within our athletic department and individual athletic programs."

The Atlantic 10 established a record for number of student-athletes, with 1,637 from the 16 conference school’s making the Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction in Fall 2012. The additions of Butler and VCU to the A-10 helped boost the total number of honorees from last year’s high of 1,369, but there was also a jump of more than 100 student-athletes earning the distinction from the other 14 member institutions.
