University officials Monday unveiled the school’s first-ever comprehensive strategic plan for Athletics that positions St.Bonaventure to repeat and surpass last year’s success – and not just on the basketball court.

“Your Teams – Our Extraordinary Future” is the result of a two-year-long planning process, the outcomes of which represent the University’s commitment to strengthening its position in the Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA Division I as a key strategy to support the global goals of the University.

“The success we achieved last year on the basketball court was definitely a shot in the arm for our planning effort, but it clearly wasn’t the reason we created the plan,” said Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., President of the University.

“Our University-wide efforts to create a best-practices planning and assessment paradigm presented the opportunity for us to fully align the vision and goals of Athletics with the goals in the University’s strategic plan, Becoming Extraordinary 2015. We’re creating a clear connection between success in Athletics and the success of the University as a whole.” To continue reading please click here

Marra Family Provides Lead Gift For Athletic Fields Project

Once again, Tom Marra has stepped to the plate and hit a home run for his beloved alma mater.

Marra, class of 1980, and his wife, Michelle, are donating $1 million to jump-start the $3 million campaign for construction of St. Bonaventure University’s new athletic fields complex.

The project includes artificial turf, seating and media facilities on both the soccer/lacrosse field and the softball field. Lighting will be installed at the soccer/lacrosse field, which also can be used by club and intramural teams, such as rugby.

The announcement was made at a university fundraising event Thursday, Nov. 28, 2012 in New York City.

Six years ago, the Marras donated $900,000 to develop the university’s field-turf baseball complex, called Fred Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field. Tom Marra was a former third baseman for the Bonnies and played for Coach Handler. To continue reading click here

Meisch family commits $75,000 gift to the Women’s Basketball Locker Room Campaign

DECEMBER 4, 2012 - St. Bonaventure University alumnus John H. Meisch and his wife, Kay, have committed $75,000 to St. Bonaventure University’s Women’s Basketball Locker Room Project.

The gift is a tribute to St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball head coach Jim Crowley and last season’s nationally ranked Bonnies (31-4), who went unbeaten in the Atlantic 10 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Crowley, a two-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, was named ESPN’s National Coach of the Year for 2011-2012. The Bonnies have won 20 or more games each of the last four seasons.

“On behalf of our entire program, I want to thank John and Kay for this incredibly generous gift,” said Crowley. “They understand how important the new locker room is to sustaining our success as a basketball program. Their commitment will positively impact our program for decades.  I am deeply humbled by their support.”

The university recently launched the locker room project to raise $300,000 for the construction of a new locker room and meeting space for the team. The improvements will advance the student-athletes’ academic, competitive and social development, and will meet or exceed Atlantic 10 Conference standards. To continue reading please click here

$300,000 Goal Met For New Women’s Basketball Locker Room

FEBRUARY 26, 2013 - Fundraising has been completed to build a new women’s basketball locker room at St. Bonaventure University.

Spurred by a $75,000 gift from John H. Meisch, class of 1958, and his wife, Kay, donors contributed a total of $300,000 for the project.

Work will begin shortly after Commencement in May and is expected to be completed before the end of summer, in time for the 2013-14 season. The locker room will be located across the hall from the men’s basketball locker room, inside the tunnel that faces the team benches.

University and athletic department officials jointly launched the locker room project as one of the primary facility needs outlined in the Athletics Strategic Plan “Your Teams – Our Extraordinary Future.” The improvements will advance the student-athletes’ academic, competitive and social development, and will be one of the premier facilities in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The facility includes a 15-stall locker room; smart board and large-screen TV for film study and game planning; team meeting room, including computer stations; and a modern shower and bathroom facility. In total, it will encompass 1,740 square feet.

The gifts were a tribute to head coach Jim Crowley and last season’s nationally ranked Bonnies (31-4), who went unbeaten in the A-10 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

“I can’t say thank you enough to all those who contributed to this project,” Crowley said. “The new facility is a critical piece to the puzzle in trying to recruit the best student-athletes possible to our program and to St. Bonaventure.” To continue reading please click here
