The GoBonnies.com Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the past week are women's basketball sophomore Asianae Johnson and women's swimming sophomore Rachel Kimmel.
Johnson paced the Bonnies in their 2019-20 season opener against St. John's. A native of Brooklyn, Johnson poured in 18 points and hauled in four rebounds against a Red Storm team picked to finish second in the Big East Preseason Poll.
For Johnson, it was her second consecutive season opener with double-digit points as she tallied 13 points in the Bonnies' 2018-19 season opener.
The Bonnies are back in action Thursday, Nov. 7 against Niagara and Sunday, Nov. 10 against Akron. Both games will be played in the Reilly Center.
Kimmel helped lead the Bonnies women's swimming and diving team to a trio of wins at the Atlantic 10 Classic Nov. 2-3. The Bonnies defeated Saint Louis, George Mason and La Salle while only falling to Duquesne.
A native of Fort Loudon, Pa., Kimmel was the winner of four events last weekend. She was able to sweep both breaststroke events, winning the 100 with a mark of 1:03.28 and finishing the 200 in 2:17.98. Kimmel then teamed with Katrina Wardner, Zanre Oberholzer and Mia Cote to win the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:52.63. In the 200-medley relay, Kimmel, Oberholzer, Cote and Ivana Janssen scored the win, finishing in 1:47.35.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Nov. 9 on the road at Cornell.
